See It Say It Saturday - Create Yourself

So here it is Saturday, March 15th and today as a result of being a member of the ZNE Design Team I got to pick the piece of art that is featured today on the ZNE Blogz.  I picked artist aLaNi Pfeiffer’s piece of art from one of her art journals that is titled “Paris Journal.”  I was attracted to this piece because it was done in the Zetti style that is so near and dear to my heart and has been made popular by Teesha Moore and her husband Tracy.  And the wonderful classes that they teach on art journaling.

Anyway….I picked aLaNi’s piece after seeing it in her gallery on her ZNE page.  As part of our first assignment on the Design Team this year we had to pick 4 pieces of art from the photo’s available to look at on the ZNE Network. So then after we picked 4 pictures, Chel assigned different Saturday’s through out the rest of 2008 to different design team members.  Well today is my first Saturday for the year and it means a LOT to me to be doing my first See It Say It Saturday today because it’s my Auntie Jean’s b-day today.  She is a very special lady to me because she is the only living relative I have left of my Dad’s immediate family.  And she’s not doing so well lately…healthwise…so the art I created for today is dedicated to her; my Auntie Jean Wetstine, my Dad’s older sister.  She’s a very special lady that was a nun for a short time in her early years right after college.  After leaving the nunhood she became a school teacher and she helped foster and encouraged my earliest endevors into the art world by buying me lots of crayons and paints to play with whenever I went to visit her as a child.  She later began working in adminstration for nursing homes.  Although she has been retired for many years she still tries to make it to church almost everyday and I know she prays for me and my family daily!! I Love her so much!!

Anyway…now on to the second part of my design team assignment….my response to the art I picked.  So you can see why it caught my eye and why I picked it I thought I should put it here for you to see!

Isn’t aLaNi talented?!  Anyway….I love this piece because of the bright colors and because she used elements like the Eiffel Tower as the hat and a picture of a window as the body. But it made me feel like the quote used on the piece is all too true…we become who we create ourself to be…not by searching or trying to find ourselves.  And I feel that creating art is an integral part of who I am.  So it applies well to me!! So in response to aLaNi’s piece I made my own piece of art.  It’s not really like aLaNi’s piece but I used the same quote on mine.  I used my new metallic watercolors to paint the background after I drew circles on the paper with regular ole’ Crayola crayons.  I altered the face from a magazine ad that I stole from one of my daughter’s magazines that I just had to swipe once I saw the colored hair.  (And if I had the guts…I’d LOVE to actually die my hair like this.)  I created her body from a piece of Basic Grey scrapbook paper that I also altered a bit with different gel pens and markers because I wanted it to be a bit brighter.  And the quote  was created using again markers, gel pens and paint pens.  Anyway…now that I’ve made it I’m not really sure what I’m going to do with it.  I might sell it or I might just frame it and keep it.  Not sure yet….but I’ll finally put it in this post so you can see what it looks like.

I decided to call it, “Create Yourself,” and I’m a little disappointed that you can’t really see the sparkly detail of the background because it makes it very pretty!!  Maybe I’ll come back tomorrow and post another pic that I take outside with the sun shining on it so you can see the sparkly detail.

If you’d like to participate in the See It Say It Saturday for this week, please go to this site to get the detials of what to do and then link back to it from your own blog/site with your response.  You can also post this banner so it’s easy for others to look for your response on your blog/site.

I hope you all have a blessed week as we’re leading up to the day of celebrating Jesus’ resurrection!!  Please pray for my kids and myself as we’ll be traveling to Miami, Oklahoma to go on a Spring Break retreat with our church youthgroup called Clayhouse.

2008 ZNE Design Team

Well it’s LONG over due but I’m FINALLY posting my first blog for 2008 and it’s to let all know that I’ll be continuing my post on the ZNE Design Team for 2008!! Something that I’m so excited to be continuing this year!!

Here’s a glimpse of our new graphic to use for being on the team this year.

Well that’s my first BIG news….now on to 3 other news items also related to the Design Team.

My next bit of news, is to let you all know, that I was pleasantly surprised to see a piece of my work, from last year’s Design Team featured on the ZNE Design Team Blog in the form of the banner appearing at the top of the page.  It looks like this….

The “E is for Eclectic” card on the left, pictured above, is one of the cards I made on last year’s team.   We did a little project where we created ACEO’s/ATC’s for the Design Team using letters of the alphabet (see post dated 5-14-07 below).  All 3 of the above art cards were created at that time.  The one in the middle was created by Susan Tidwell and the one on the right was created by Tiffany Jane Marshall.

The next exciting thing to share, is that all of the art cards pictured above along with all of the other ABC cards created by the Design Team are featured in a wonderful
YouTube video that our fearless leader Chel produced for us.  It was created back in June of last year (yes…I know…I’m running behind on my news about this….)  And by clicking the link below you can go watch it.

ZNE Little Letterz

OH and a little tid bit I noticed over on Chel’s Blog….is this little nifty gif she has up to direct you to the ZNE website…and well it has a little bitty part of a piece of my art blinking on it as well.  It’s the bit with the ladies face. So you can see it too…and click on it if you want to (to see where it takes you) I’ve included it below!

Thanks for stopping by to check in with me!!  I’ll be back again soon with news about an art show at church for the youth group, Clayhouse.   There will also be more news on the Desgin Team and on the ZNE book club too!!
